Spring Concert Next Month

Stafford Campus families, please join us for an evening of music and song as we close out the 2014-2015 school year. The 3rd-5th graders will perform on Thursday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. We will feature the 4th & 5th grade choir and band, as well as the third graders playing their recorders. This is a great opporitunity for our students to showcase what they've learned this year, and for parents to see what opportunities are available in the upper elementary grades. We are very excited about the performance and hope that everyone will make plans to join us to encourage our students!  .

Standardized Testing Next Week

Just a reminder that standardized testing for students in grades 1-5 will begin Monday, April 20. Please keep the following in mind as we prepare for testing:

  1. Please be sure your child arrives to school on time. Once testing has begun, students may not enter the classroom. Tardy students will have to wait in the office until testing is completed and make up the missed test(s) later. Tests will be administered each morning. Please do not schedule appointments for your child during testing times.
  2. Please make every effort to have your child at school every day during standardized testing. Make-up test sessions will be scheduled during instructional times. When it is necessary for students to make up any portion of the test, they miss new information that is being taught and test in conditions that are not identical to their classmates.
  3. While we appreciate your efforts to have your children here for testing, please do not send them to school if they have a fever of 100 degrees or more, or if they experience vomiting or diarrhea. As usual, children must be free of these symptoms for 24 hours (without the aid of medication) before returning to school.
  4. Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a good breakfast every day. Students will also need a nutritious snack and water bottle.
Field Day April 30th

On Thursday, April 30th, we will be having Field Day for our Kindergarten-5th graders. We will meet in the gym at 9:00 am for the opening ceremony. The remainder of the morning will be filled with station activities led by the teachers and staff. We encourage our parents to come and cheer on our students! Students will need to bring a snack a water bottle (labeled with their name).
Attire for Field Day is FCS Spirit Shirts, or a plain green t-shirt, appropriate shorts (no more than two inches above the knee), and sneakers.

iPad Parent Information Session

Parents, we are excited to share information with you about our iEXCEL iPad program. If you are the parent of a preschool-4th grade student who would like to learn more about our elementary iPad program or the parent of a current 5th grade student who would like to learn what to expect next year at the Upper School, come to one of our iPad Parent Information Sessions. We are offering 4 sessions – two at the Lower School and 2 at the Stafford campus, which will include a short overview followed by a time for questions and comments. We hope to see you there!

Principal's Praise

As we prepare to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord, my heart is turned to love. A perfect and unfailing love that you and I will never fully comprehend. A  love that can only come from our Heavenly Father who willingly gave His Son to die on a cross. I often wonder, how can He love us that much? Why does He love us that much? God loves you simply because He has chosen to do so. He loves you when you don’t feel lovely, or when it seems as if no one else loves you. Just think, at any step along the way He could have called it quits. Jesus could have said, “That’s it! That’s enough, I’m going home.” But He didn’t - because of His unfailing love. And He will love you, always, no matter what. I pray that as your family celebrates this Easter season, you will be ever mindful of His love. I’m praying your family has a joy-filled Easter.

Snow Days

As discussed in the recent email from Mr. Yost, the FCS Administrative Team has decided that, unless we miss several more days this year, we will not add any days to the 2014-2015 school calendar.

You may be interested to know that the FCS calendar is built to meet the needs of our instructional program and gives us significantly more classroom time than Virginia public schools. The public school systems calculate their school days based on a minimum number of "contact hours" for students. If you calculate the number of hours we have built into the FCS school year, we far exceed the number of hours planned for public schools. In fact, even with our missed days this year, we will exceed the minimum number of hours required by the state of Virginia.

Painting Services Available

Honeywell-School Closings/Delays

Since Honeywell is the primary means used to convey important school information, it is vital for all school families to register with the system and keep their profiles up-to-date.

When there is uncertainty as to whether it will be necessary to dismiss early due to weather, please be aware that campus offices are not notified in advance of the Honeywell alert. The best way for you to ensure you receive the very latest information is to maintain your Honeywell profile.

You may access the Honeywell site here.

All new families must register on the Honeywell site. To register, click “Parent” under the “New User? Sign Up Now!” heading. Select Virginia/Fredericksburg Christian and enter your child’s name and date of birth. Finally, enter your name and set up your user-name and password. You will then be able enter your contact information. You may also manage the types of alerts you wish to receive. Please contact Mrs. Wooden in the office if you have any trouble signing up.

All returning families are asked to review their profiles at least once a year to ensure their information is up-to-date. This is especially important if you have moved, changed jobs, changed email addresses, or obtained a new cell phone since you last checked your account. Parents are responsible for maintaining their Honeywell account, so please be sure to update your profile if your contact information changes. Returning families will use their ID and password from last year.

PDT Information

The PDT (Parent Developmental Team) is a parent led group formed to raise community awareness of the Christ-centered education offered at the Stafford Campus of FCS. Parents work hand-in-hand with the Campus principal to promote our tie with the Stafford County families, churches and businesses.
The PDT meets once a month  in Room 2 at 8:30 am. Our meetings cover a variety of topics but each one promoting our campus/school in some way. Please contact Mrs. Geyer for more information. Upcoming meetings are listed below:

- April 23

The conference room at the Upper School is in need of new conference room chairs (similar to the ones currently in the room; see picture below). The room sees quite a bit of traffic for things such as board and administrator meetings, parent meetings, club meetings, and department head meetings, to name a few. This past week it was used by the company conducting our annual financial audit.

If your company or agency happens to be remodeling and has some "like new" conference room chairs that we could have or purchase at a reasonable price, please let your campus principal or secretary know.

Because of the variety of people who use this room, we would prefer adjustable chairs that are dark in color (something that will complement our cherry/mahogany colored conference table). Thanks so much for your help!

Arrival/Dismissal Safety Reminder

In the interest of student safety, we ask that you abide by these important safety rules during arrival and dismissal.

  • Use of mobile phones is prohibited while in carpool lines.
  • Please do not pull out of the carpool line or pull around vehicles in front of you; stay in line until the person in front of you exits.
  • When pulling around the building, please remember to enter on the left side (as you face the building). Please don’t cut through the parking lot to get into the arrival or dismissal line
  • If using Shelton Shop Road to enter the Stafford Campus, please don’t make a U-turn to get on Soaring Eagle Drive. Please proceed to the next opening near Food Lion to make a U-turn or enter the campus from Garrisonville Road.

  • Please do not allow your child to walk to the building from the parking lot. It is unsafe for students to cross through the carpool line on foot. Please pull up to the front of the building in the regular carpool line so that your child can exit directly to the sidewalk.
  • Students in grades K-3 are not permitted to exit their vehicle on their own; please wait for a faculty member or volunteer to open your car door.
  • Students in grade 4-5 are allowed to exit their vehicle on their own, however do not allow them to exit until you have hit the marked unloading zone – DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO EXIT BEFORE REACHING THAT SIGN

  • ALWAYS (including bad weather dismissal days) form two lines up to the corner of the elementary playground, and then zipper into one line as you come around the front of the school.
  • Parents are strongly encouraged to use the regular carpool line for dismissal. However, if you have an appointment or other commitment and cannot wait in the regular line, you may park and walk over to pick up your child. Please park on the east side of the parking lot (sections left of the flagpoles as you face the building).
  • Please do not take your student out of line without first notifying the teacher.

Detailed information regarding arrival and dismissal is provided in the student handbook. Please be sure you have read the handbook and are familiar with arrival and dismissal procedures. The office also has arrival/dismissal maps in the office. The safety of our students, parents, and staff is very important to us. Thank you for partnering with us to make safety a priority.

Standardized Testing Change From Mr. Yost

Testing is now scheduled for April 20th-28th, due to additional information from the testing company.  As we shared with you earlier, FCS has decided to switch from the Stanford standardized achievement tests to TerraNova for our school-wide standardized testing. TerraNova is widely recognized throughout the nation as a respected, valid, and innovative national achievement test. It is also recommended by ACSI, our accreditation agency, and they have worked in partnership with each other to ensure that the test represents who we are as Christian schools. After reviewing the testing materials we received, we felt our students would be much better served by taking the test later in the year. We followed up our conclusions with several calls, contacting both ASCI and CTB/McGraw-Hill, the company that produces the testing. They confirmed what we believed, that this particular standardized test is better suited for later in the school year to assess what students have learned during the year, even though some schools do administer the test in the fall. As a result, we have decided to move our testing to Spring. We are confident this will reflect a more valid score for students and allow us to better use the results to constantly monitor our progress as a school.  Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we seek to use every available means to ensure the success of your child.

Class Websites

Our new elementary class websites have been up and running for a couple weeks. If you haven't logged in and checked out the Google Sites web page, please do so this weekend. The weekly teacher emails that have been sent while the pages were being developed will be stopping next week. The Google Sites will be your main source for weekly assignments, tests, class activities, and pictures. Our students will also be using this account at school, we ask that you do not change this password.
If you are not able to log on or have any issues with accessing the site, please contact your child’s teacher. They will put you in touch with the right person to help solve the issue that you are having.

1. Open a web browser and go to

2. Enter your child’s login information:

            Password: ten4net

3. Click “Sign In.”

4. Click on the class that you would like to access. You should have access to your child’s classroom and all of their special classes.

A Message From Our Superintendent

In addition to the high priorities of academic development and spiritual growth at FCS, we are constantly vigilant regarding the safety and security of your children. We continue to improve our security monitoring and emergency response standards, and we are always eager to hear any concerns or suggestions from our school families. I'm writing today just to remind you of some of the procedures we have in place in the event of an emergency at or around your child's campus.

In the event of a lockdown, evacuation, extreme weather, a regional event or emergency, or other unusual activity on or around a campus, we will notify our school families as soon as possible and practical. Our primary methods of notification are Honeywell alerts*, email, the FCS website, Facebook, and Twitter.

Parents are certainly welcome to pick up their students (or give permission for student drivers to leave) whenever they feel safety dictates. In the unlikely event that circumstances prevent parents from picking up their children (e.g. an incident near your location or restrictions put in place by local authorities), please know that we will keep your child safely at school with teachers and administrators for as long as it takes for you to get to the campus (even if it means late into the night).

We praise God for His provision of 35 years of safety on all of our campuses, but we recognize the need to be wise and proactive as we consider the times in which we live and as we consider the great privilege we have in caring for your precious children. Thank you for allowing us to help you train and protect your children, and as always, please do not hesitate to contact me or your campus principal if you have any questions or suggestions.
*The Honeywell Alery System is not yet operational for this school year, when it has been updated we will notify you via email and the blog.
