Classroom Bible Verse:
"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!"

Psalm 118:24

Using your FCS calendar, please use the items listed on the month's page for prayer praises and requests.  Thank you for praying for our school in this and other ways.

September Prayer Praises and Requests:

Praise be to God for the support of so many churches in our area that have opened their doors to FCS so that our school could be housed in their facilities over the years.
Pray for funding for the new multipurpose gym with a stage and a fine arts classroom wing at the Upper School.  These areas are needed to better meet the growing number of students at the Upper School campus.

Important Information for August/September:

Unit Study:
During our first two weeks, we will work on habit training and learning the classroom rules to keep us safe and happy.  We will also begin an "All About Me" unit.  We will talk about ourselves - our hands, feet, height, weight, our families, our homes, and what we want to be when we grow up.  We will work on an "All About Me Booklet," read other books, and sing songs.  The last few weeks of September we will work on phonemic awareness as we explore a number of different nursery rhymes.  We will hear the rhymes, do related projects, and use dramatic play to act out the rhymes.

Bible Time:
To begin the year, we will focus on the message of salvation through Jesus Christ using the "Wordless Book."  We will then talk about the seven days of creation, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph as we begin a study of the Bible from the beginning.

Phonics and Letter/Sound for Show and Share:
During the first two weeks of school, we will learn about the ABC's through songs and chants.  We will read many books and enjoy God's written Word.  The second week of September, we will begin the study of the  short vowels introducing a new letter/sound each week.  Look for more information concerning how "Show and Share" time relates to our letter/sound of the week.  Follow the month's calendar for the letter/sound of the week.

Math:
Our first couple of weeks of school will focus on counting, sorting by colors, and number identification.  We will then work on making simple sets, matching numbers to a set, and  using ordinal numbers.
