About Us

A Message from our Superintendent

Welcome to FCS!

We began 30 years ago with just over 30 elementary students, and now we are serving over 1,100 students in grades PreK-12. While we are grateful for those 30 years of our existence, our focus at Fredericksburg Christian Schools is on a much greater span of time: eternity. You see, the reason that we exist at all is simply to train generations of young people so that they will impact the culture and the world with the eternal message of Jesus Christ. If you are a parent or grandparent reading this, you know that the job of raising children today is one that requires much prayer and much help. We are here to seriously engage that challenge with you while we train well-equipped, well-educated servant leaders who will be fit for whatever unique Kingdom work the Lord calls them to.

FCS is uniquely poised to assist parents in raising those culture-changing leaders through an academic program that is at the very top in the Fredericksburg region (check out our SAT scores on the At a Glance page and college placements on our FAQ page under high school), a full range of athletic opportunities, award-winning fine arts and an emphasis on community service. And all of those important elements are offered in the context of intentional biblical integration and spiritual growth that is nurtured through relationships with our Godly professional staff.

Thank you for visiting the FCS website. I think you’ll find that without visiting all 5 of our campuses, it is the best source of information about our school that is available. But, please call or visit any time. We’d be glad to show you around so you, too, can see why we’re so excited about the future of our school and the future of a world full of Fredericksburg Christian Schools graduates.

Rick Yost,
Superintendent

P.S. I’d like to introduce you to our founders, Gary and Andy Foss (see below). Their vision for young people and the work of Almighty God in the lives of those children is what drove them to do the hard work of founding such a large school…and it is still at the heart of this ministry. They are currently active board members and tremendous encouragers for the work they started in 1979. You can read the testimony of how the Lord used them to begin this dynamic ministry below.

Thirty years ago, after accepting a challenge from the Christian community, Gary and Andy Foss established Fredericksburg Christian School at First Christian Church with thirty students and four teachers. Gary served as principal, custodian, bus driver, playground supervisor and secretary.

The school quickly outgrew First Christian and then Falmouth Baptist Church and then moved to Highway Assembly of God where it has been housed ever since. FCS was also a guest of Arwood Church of God and revisited First Christian Church as it experienced growing “pains.”  In 1988, FCS was welcomed into New Life in Christ Church where the Fredericksburg Elementary Campus has been housed since that time. The student body was at 468 students.

In 1991, Fredericksburg Christian High School graduated its first class of seniors, and three years later God led FCS to the land that the current high school stands on – 75 acres. FCHS opened its doors at the present location in 1997 with 250 students in grades nine through twelve. Total enrollment was 855 students. In the meantime, Stafford Baptist Church invited FCS to take leadership of its school in 1995, which led to the establishment of FCS’ Stafford Campus and our home for the last thirteen years.
