Who remembers in what stories one finds Wilbur, Pagan, and the Man with the Yellow Hat? Anyone know the more modern characters of Alooki, Geronimo Stilton, or Firedrake?
FCS students who have taken the library's 'cocoa characters' challenge know! All this month, students have come in to the library to attempt at matching three 'marshmallow characters' with one of twelve 'cocoa mug books' in order to win a 'free book checkout' coupon.
Congratulations on all those who have successfully completed the challenge thus far! Keep reading!
(Book titles for the above characters: Charlotte's Web, Pilgrim's Progress, Curious George, Three Snow Bears, Geronimo Stilton books, and Dragon Rider. Enjoy!)

'Star Books' Club News
"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts," Isaiah 55:9.
Star Books Club is open to all our 'brilliantly bright' sixth and seventh grade students! "Star Books" is the sixth graders' book club, while "Star Books Grande" is the seventh graders' club.
The books chosen for this year's sixth grade club will be City of Ember by Jean du Prau, Crispin: Cross of Lead by Avi, Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, Hardy Boys by Frank Dixon or Nancy Drew by Carolyn Keene, Pictures Hollis Woods by Patricia Rielly Giff, and Double Identity by Margaret Haddix. We also have two 'reader's choice' options which will be Christian Fiction and one book from the Series of Unfortunate Events.
The seventh grade club will be expounding on their books selected for classroom book reports, which are different genres chosen monthly by their literature teacher.
Clubs meet once a month for lunch and discussion time in the library. Our goals are to promote great books to other students and to become better discerners of literature, viewing it from a Biblical perspective.
To participate, students may download the application and contract here and return them to Mrs. Storms.
*Next 'Star Books' Club meets Thursday, February 22nd, when we will discuss 'Gulliver's Travels' (Great Illustrated Classics edition).
*'Star Books Grande' Club will meet Wednesday February 21st when we will discuss great missionaries' biographies.

Give the Gift of Reading!
Another great way to help build our library is through the Birthday Book Program. At any time during the year, for a $15 donation, you may have a book presented to the library in honor of your child's birthday! A special book is preselected by our librarians. They will place a special bookplate in the book and present a certificate to the child in chapel. The student will be the first to check out that book. The book will then be added to the collection so that others may enjoy his or her book in the future.
You may also want to consider donating to the Birthday Book Program in honor of your student's teacher or other faculty member. Books have been given for not only faculty and students' birthdays, but also special holidays or 'just because we love you.' Many relatives and friends also enjoy donating a book as a surprise to the students. It is a fun gift the students can share with their friends!
You may download the Birthday Book form here, or stop in the library to pick one up!

Doing any shopping at the Family Christian Bookstore???
If so, please request your 'Ministry Builders' stickers. For every $5 you spend, they will give one sticker. These can only be used for ministries such as FCS. It is a great way to help build the library's Christian selection!

ONLINE RESEARCHING TIPS
In a fast-changing world with research just a click away, how do you teach your kids to evaluate websites, not just 'Google and grab'? Here are a few great tips from the "QUICK" (Quality Information Check List) website:
Is it clear who has written the information?
Are the aims of the site clear?
Does the site achieve its aims?
Can the information be checked?
Is the information biased in any way?
Does the site tell you about choices open to you?
Go to their site and take the "Quick" quiz! You may also download Mrs. Storms' reference sheet to researching online here.
